Any experience of Ridley frames?

Morning,

I was changing the BB on my Specialized Hardrock over the weekend and upon removing it discovered the threads in the frame are completely knackered. My LBS are reluctant to even bother trying to re-thread it as they don't think it will last long at all. So I have been looking at replacement frames so I can just swap some of the components over from the Hardrock and not be without the bike for too long. I came across a Ridley Blast 7DA frame online which is reasonably priced but I can't find many reviews. Does anyone know if they're any good or is it worth me looking for something else?

My mate has a ridley frame that he built up himself and he really rates it. I can't help more than that but just wanted to check you were planning on buying it from CRC where they are currently £198 rather than £650?

I am indeed. With the 10% off they are currently offering it's actually £179 so a real bargain!

Only a good deal if it fits you. They only have big sizes left. 19" to a whopping 23".

My current Hardrock is a 19" frame so don't see it being a problem.

Decided on that size myself from what I remember and then bought it online. I'm 5ft10 and have always found the 19" Hardrock comfy to ride.

Yes I ordered one a couple of days ago. It should be arriving today so I will post up what it's like when it gets here. I did find the frame weight somewhere but I can't for the life of me remember where. It was a hell of a lot lighter than my Hardrock frame so I'm happy with that!

Do you think the integrated/non-replaceable rear mech hanger will be an issue?

Not for the sort of use this bike will be getting. In reality it's only going to be used for family bike rides and the occasional ride out with friends so no hard use!

The frame just arrived and I am very impressed with it! It is unbelievably light! I don't have a set of scales at work but will weigh it when I get home. The rear mech hanger is removable which I didn't realise and the overall finish and quality of the frame is very very good!

I'm looking forward to building it up now

Sounds good - post up some pics of your build!

Good to know the mech hanger is replaceable.

Need to have a quick measure and see if the 19" will work for me.
