Very loud creaking disc brakes

Hello.

The front disc on my Trek Ex8 mountainbike has started creaking very loudly.

The bike is new, although I have done a run around Dalby on it with no problems. After the Dalby run, I washed it, and then didn't use it for about a month. When I went out for its 2nd run yesterday, both brakes were creaking (although the back one settled down quickly). The front one is still pedestrian scaringly loud. It also feels like it has reduced performance.

Have I failed to bed my brakes in properly, and what can I do about it? Or does it sound like something else?

Pads. On the hardtail I glazed mine or got something in them - oil/gt85/muc off or something - and despite sanding the top layer off they wouldn't stop creaking. Easy fix and pads are cheap as chips if you don't buy OEM and buy a few at a time. I usually go for the blue Superstar ones.

In the meantime sand the pads and clean the discs with isopropyl alochol. Might just get you by.

As above, I tend to just bung on a new set of Superstar kevlar (red) pads if things get bad. £6 each if you buy them is sets of 4.

Just get some disc brake cleaner and give it a quick spray and wipe down. That should remove any contaminants.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned both discs with a brillo pad type thing, then changed the pads around back to front (front ones were making all the noise). I then went for a ride and made sure I did some hard prolonged braking. The noise settled down after a few minutes and now seems to be gone.
