That was a title I never expected I'd type...

... anyway, during my circuit last night, I finally got pissed-off with the insect-gun. By careful breathing, I have managed to avoid eating any of the little bds (I must look weird though judging by people's expressions when they see me), and my Oakley specs wrap-around close enough to my head to keep them out of my eyes, however my helmet keeps hoovering them up, and trapping them against my head. Buzzy buzzy annoying little f*&$£rs.

What to do?

Clearly I need some netting in the holes (Specialized Tactic) but how to avoid looking like a bank robber with a stocking on my head (although that would actually solve all the above problems)? Any "elegant" solutions to this?

Fishnet stockings taped in place of offending holes.

If the maker does not supply them you could be in difficulty.

Buy a Catlike leaf, the mesh is already in the lower vent holes.

Wait till you have ridden a few miles with your jersey half open, and you get home and take it off. Ewww.

Ooh, no thanks. I wouldn't do that to the world.

Not too keen on the Catlike helmets - they set off my trypophobia.

So tonight, I thought I'd be safe going out just after the rain had stopped but that seemed only to have encouraged the insect gun shooter more. I ate at least two, despite my previously-flawless technique, had another take a fancy to one of my eyes, and a bloody herd / flock / murder / bd of them take up lodgings in my lid.

fkers. Going out with a flame thrower tomorrow.

A wasp somehow managed to get inside my bib shorts while riding with my jersey half-unzipped. I'm not sure what hurt most - the repeated stings or punching myself in the ribs trying to kill the fking thing.

That could have been a case of an insect trapped in your other helmet. laughmad

The Leaf looks like a normal lid, so slots more than looking like Emmental! Its sold a as a trail lid.

So it does. Well, it looks *more* like a normal lid than their others, I agree.

I like my Spec Tactic though. Need to do something with that. It's currently too hot to wear anything under the helmet, although I have considered not wearing it at all until the numbers of flies go down a bit. But that would be admitting defeat.

Thanks for the other funny stories.

The only option I see is to modify you current helmet and get a thin face mask or respro unit.

Cheap as chips bit of PVA glue

I have the same issue. I found this, but dont need a new helmet so I've decided I'll just have put up with the bugs.

I "invented" something along those lines while lying in bed last night. biggrin

For simplicity though, and because the little gits can't be around for much longer in the current concentrations, I may just cover the whole lid in a bank-robber-fishnet.

I fitted a venus fly-trap in my helmet - that eats the smaller flies, but struggled with really big blue-bottles.
Available from all good garden centres.
