Great article by Stuart McGuirk in this month's GQ. Hits the nail on the head for me.
Although he describes a phenomenon which he suggestes is limited to the summer as fairweather bikers get on their Boris Bikes for a brief spell, I'd actually suggest it's a year round problem of poorly trained, poorly equipped cyclists let loose on the open road.

Author is one of the "if you don't race your not a proper cyclist" brigade. Makes me laugh how much sportives and riders on expensive bikes personally offend them. DicksI agree with parts of it, but it comes across as very elitist.
Ha ha, bitter cyclist who didnt make it as a pro has a cheap pop at enthusiasts taking part in "his" sport.... its like Lewis Hamilton coming out and mouthing off about those blokes who race kit cars at Oulton Park at the weekend...

I think his points are valid although hes forgotten that the bicycle makes a good mode of daily transport as well as being a good fitness tool / sport.
Theres a lot of ignorant riders on the road lacking basic etiquette and road manners (as well as other ignorant road users). Dare I say it though its often the clubs around here riding 3-4 abreast down the country roads. It may be good for their training but makes them bloody hard to overtake.
Not sure about the bike price though. If a £10k bike is what you need to get motivated to ride every day then buy it. I might giggle at the overweight riders in lycra and a rather stunning bike but I'd never tell them to do anything otherwise if it works. I just hope they stay motivated to make it good value for money. Expensive bikes only look stupid gathering dust in the garage.
