Garmin playing up...

My ancient (3 yrs+?!) Garmin Forerunner is refusing to start up; the on/off button doesn't do a thing. Sad if it is dead, even sadder is it is making me rethink my riding over the weekend! Was going to head over to Maresfield and Westerham to try 4 hills in the 100 Climbs, but if I can't record my feeble attempts I might just pootle about instead.
I've googled the problem and a soft or hard reset may kick start it, fingers crossed. Other than that, I either splash out on a new one, or try and get my phone to do it, but I think the data charges would pay for a new Forerunner!

Can't you use an app on your phone while the Garmin is out of action? Can I be the first to say its a bit sad if its going to stop you riding this weekend. Sorry, but it is.
Anyway, if the hard rest doesn't fix it you could use an app like Strava on the phone. There are no data charges, it works off GPS. If you are worried turn data off, it will still work.

I agree, it was a fleeting thought as I was grinding up the climb out of the village into the wind! I was thinking of the replacement alternatives straight awayS10GTA said:

In the middle of a soft reset and the Garmin display seems to be saying normal service resumed.Enjoy your weekend ride.

Managed a great ride yesterday, planned to do 4 of the 100 Climbs south of London. The Wall went ok - had to go down it first and then turn round at the bottom which was a faff but at least I knew how long it was. My navigation to Yorks Hill went awry (printed maps and turn by turn directions are a real pain in the arse!) and the hill itself was hard. Very narrow, muddy slimy wet leaves and rocks in the middle, scared about descending cyclists yada yada. On the way to Toys Hill took a right turn too soon and ended up looking at my bits of paper as three other cyclists came by. Got chatting, joined their group, realised we were going over the Toys Hill ridge but not on the actual hill, ended up descending it and turning round to climb again. At that point I abandoned the idea of White Lane because it was about 5 miles further on, I was knackered and knew I had a long grind southwards into the wind. Got home and realised I missed the start of Toys Hill proper, so will have to go back!
