I think someone needs to set up some kind of wacky-races style bike race, with competitors riding a collection of crazily unsuitable bikes. Would be great fun to watch.

Not that it makes it any less of a feat but I think I saw a derailleur on the back of it. I remember going uphill on a Raleigh Chopper borrowed from my brother in no.1 of the 3 sturmey archer gears available. Amazingly there was a neutral between 1 and 2 on the gear lever and it kept slipping into it causing untolled damage to my yet to be used in anger equipment!

The only time I've seen a Raleigh Chopper used in anger was on the 100 mile Wolverhampton to Aberdovey ride last June where a guy was riding one in a full public school uniform. Due to a series of punctures and our lame pace he started and finished at the same time as us in around 6 1/2 hours, we were using cyclocross bikes!

There's no dérailleur on that Chopper, although the original did come with a five speed option.

The neutral was between second and third, I smashed my knees up so bad on my Grifter due to that neutral that I still have knee trouble now.

Haha. The overtaking clip reminds me of when I could pass the road bikes up that hill in Richmond Park on my single speed.
