Noticed the last week or so of riding, when I take jersey off the right hand side of my abdomen, level with belly button and an area of about a hand's coverage, is deep crimson, as if it has been burnt. It dissipates after twenty minutes or so but I do wonder what is causing it as it is doing it consistently when no other areas are. There aren't any organs really there are there, so it can't be from heat on one of those (and it isn't hot yet!)

Is that the area that's bent over, could be friction from shorts / top?

After getting drenched on a long ride a couple of years ago I was forced to change into a pair of shorts (ie not bib shorts) and had what looked like a rash just above my waist, exactly where the waistband of the shorts was.

it is such an isolated and consistent area though. Allergy or sweat type thing would have been more generalised or fixed along a seam or something like that I would have thought? I suppose it might be that my right leg comes up a bit higher and 'crushes' into my abdomen as I am riding, causing friction and heat (or perhaps the opposite and this area is therefore getting colder and hence red).

This is after around an hour of strenuous (but not all out) riding.

And I haven't had this before (there is a big mirror at work when you get out the shower so I would have noticed before).

It could be so many things, could be an underlying abdominal problem, i.e. in your intestines, or some sort of skin rash aggravated by heat or exercise.

Could be this but unlikely as there would be a pale discolouration the rest of the time:

Is there any pain or discomfort associated with the area?

no it isn't that, the skin is otherwise completely normal. It looks kind of 'scalded'/intensely sunburnt (ie an even dark red colour) for about 20 mins after the ride but isn't tender or noticeably hotter or colder than the rest of the skin in that area.

I'll keep an eye on it and if it continues go see a GP.

My tummy often gets red after a ride but it's cold to the touch and it's caused by the wind chill of riding along (it is the biggest surface area after all!!!).

It could well be that, but just weird it is only over to one side, unless that is because internal organs to the other side are providing more heat to that area.

I haven't been concious about being cold either, but then I suppose core torso heat and skin surface heat are probably very different when riding in 2-8 degree temperatures with bib tights, jersey and thin gilet and putting a good effort in.
