Anybody tried a belt drive?

I need some reasons not to buy one of these as a commuter/town/nip-to-the-pub bike. Either that or it's time for some serious man-maths (the ideal number of bikes is always n+1, right?)

Anybody got any experience of the belt drivetrain - good/bad/indifferent?

I LOVE it!
absollutley silent when running, no issues with gear ratios, I've kept up with the odd MAMIL too..

Other then the faff when taking the rear wheel off for any reason, I think they're a novel, fuss/dirt free alternative....definitely worth having amongst your garage n+1 etc...

That looks lovely! Really clean lines and nothing cluttering it up. What is it?

Interesting you say that taking the wheel off is a faff - why's that? I can understand that removing the belt means you need to undo the frame joint but why is removing a wheel any different than with a chain?

And no problem with the gear ratios, I ride almost exclusively singlespeed at the moment so actually having gears is a novelty in itself

I've got a spot brand, belt drive single speed 29er, love it.

My next commuter will definitely be belt drive.

I first saw them at bike show last September and immediately ordered 10 for stock. Sold a Riese & Mueller Blue label charger with gates and Nuvinci last week...absolutely superb. Our new Spencer Ivy bikes will come with carbon belt drives now. For our e-bike market they are perfect...no noise, lighter, maintenance free and they have sorted out the rear wheel removal issues on most frames. Paired with the Nuvinci the gearing is not an issue of course (trickier with derailleurs mind you...)

I haven't actually fiddled with the rear wheel yet, but reading the instructions is off-putting...disengaging the Alfine, and then deconstructing the frame... I guess after a few goes it'll be fine, but it ain't no QR system thats for sure.
