Camelback Idea, please someone invent this.

Im a fair weather biker, I put away my camelback clean and it comes out green next time.

And stained.

Around the house I have the bags you get in a box of wine, it looks a little like a camelback. What I need is an adapter to fit all the camel back bits, when it goes green I go and by a box of wine. (hic)

Do you use it for anything other than water?

When empty place camelbak in freezer, this kills anything likely to grow green inside.
Store in dark place away from sunshine and ensure when putting it away it is dry.

Well this is no good for my green Camelback at the moment.

I tried sticking vodka in it but one day I hung it up expecting to go out the next day and didnt for 2 months.

And its always in a dark place in its bag.

Camelback sell a great (if expensive relative to what it is) kit for cleaning bladders - it's a pipe brush for the hose, a larger one for the bladder itself and most importantly a grid thing to place in the bag afterwards to allow it to dry!! Drying out all the internals is the most important thing.

For a cheaper alternative you can buy baby bottle disinfectant tablets for pennies a box, I mix it up double the recommended strength and let it sit over night - it won't shift 'stains*' but it stops nasties growing from one weekend to another.

If you're going to pack it away for winter, as others have said chuck it in the freezer, it doesn't kill anything per-se, but it stops stuff growing in there.

• btw I once had a 'stained' bladder, only it wasn't Camelback make their bladders out of a plastic that doesn't stain - but mildew and stuff does grow on it, I used one of their cleaning tablets and it all lifted off, I'd been using it like that for months assuming wrongly it was 'stained'.

Another important point I also forgot - when you're cleaning, don't forget about the bite valve, you can get growth inside that too if you're not careful.

Rinse it out, then leave to dry with a large silicone funnel in it, so it holds it open so it completely dries.

I had this with my old Camelback and I could never get rid of the funny taste after it had black mould growing in it.

With the new bladder I only ever put water in it and it saves the problems.

That's the sort of thing, but taking the idea to the bladder you get in a wine box.
