Summer tyres

Optimistic maybe but I need new tyres so am looking at a light summer compound. Wiggle are doing Continental Grand Prix 4000S Road Tyre Twin Pack for £50.

Any thoughts?

Don't know about those Contis, but I've not had any complaints about their GP 4Seasons winter rubber.

My choice for summer tyres is Schwalbe Ultremos. Although they seem to be a 'Marmite' tyre, with many swearing that they are intrinsically evil for a variety of reasons, none of which I've experienced through several sets and thousands of miles. Having said that, last year I just left the 'winter' tyres on all summer long, with no ill effects.

As are Michelin Pro 4 Service Course, which are usually cheaper.

Big thumbs up for Conti GP4000 S's from me. Did over a year on my winter bike with them from rough roads in northern France to crappy coastal routes locally. Not a single puncture. Summer or winter they're the best.

Roughly translated, Schwalbe means "Utter st" in most languages. Overly fragile crap with a history of sidewall failures, delimitation etc, etc. Avoid like the plague and out your money towards something quality, namely Vittoria or Continental.

Decathlon have some Pro 3s for £20 each which are great tyres but I'd be tempted to try the Kenda Kountach, they are £26 each from wiggle and supposed to be fast and durable.... wiggle also have the Conti Attack/Force combo for £65 ish which is worth a go as they get good reviews for being sticky and fast.

Some of the suggestions are more all round tyres IMO, If you're after some summer tyres I can recommend Veloflex masters which have a really supple feel. £30 from ribble and available in 25mm too.

Summer tyres for dry periods have to be Open Corsa's (but in my experience puncture easily once wet), funny enough fitted mine today but won't be riding them for a little while yet;



For 'normal' summer riding I am yet to find better than Vredestein Fortezza TriComp, excellent all round tyre, grippy, light, good transition, one puncture in several thousand miles - tried several different sets of Conti's and never got on with them!

Another vote here for the Contis and CRC were doing a great deal on them last week, don't know if it's still running!
