Sqealing disc brakes

Hi all,
My first disc brake equipped MTB so apologies if this is an obvious question but are the brakes usually so squeally, especially in wet muddy conditions? The noise they make is incredibly loud under medium braking but unlide standard pards/rims I have no idea if its possible to adjust them to stop it? I’ve only been on the bike twice so is it possibly just a case of getting them bedded in properly?

All mine have done that - Avids and Formulas. Usually a couple of brisk stops and they go quiet again.

Disc brakes work to tiny margins between disc and pad, it's an unfortunate fact that if it's really wet/stty out they'll complain.

You can minimise it by making sure the callipers are centered to the disc.

Mine are horribly noisy in the wet. Fortunately, I have bigger discs on the front than on the back, so they squeal at different frequencies. This means I can play little tunes whenever I come to a stop

Use some thinners on the discs and take the pads out and use some wet and dry paper on them. You might have glazed the pads a bit. Make sure, you never get any oil on them, as that will make them squeal loads too. Also don't touch the discs with your fingers. Silly I know, but oily fingers do the same as well.
