Well.... that's a lot of information there.

I used it once, just to test it out on my Mountain Bike, anyway, wet muddy day, riding solo not really the best recipe for outright speed - but a quick review showed me top 6% on my favourite descent, which I was happy with.

For about a nanosecond, then my head was swirling with "maybe I'm not as good as I think I am" because whilst I was top 6% I was waaaaaay off the place of KOM, 10mph average over a savage section of trail, they were averaging my max speed - that's just not possible, the margin of error there is tiny, there's no run-of and mistakes will end in much pain and suffering, but never the less I started plotting where I could shave a second here and a second there.

Then it dawned on me, I wouldn't be happy unless I was KOM, top 5% still wouldn't make me happy - and I was digitally racing pro riders, half my age on brand new, beautifully maintained bike - Strava was only going to make me unhappy and / or very badly hurt. I uninstalled it.

Awful trolling.
Is it?

In my view Strava is a curse which encourages bad riding and risk taking.

A bit like being able to easily guess which drivers are on their phones it's often easy to identify riders who are more focused on Strava than the road.

You might as well do what the KOM has done, and buy a moped.

I've ditched strava since I purchased my edge 200. It's so much nicer being able to chase myself rather than all the segments on strava.

After searching the net for other examples of strava nutters I came across many posts from piston heads, hence my comments. I have not simply joined to comment on this.

Ohh sorry I forgot your not entitled to an opinion thesedays!!

I posted this as I feel I can't be the only guy who feels like this. Riding head down and carelessly is never good
Did you lose your KOM or............

your on a 1 man internet craze to get everyone to stop using strava and ride sensibly?

You should start an e-petition people on facebook love them..........

We like Strava and we like spelling. Might not be the best place for you.

Maybe go cry on a YouTube comments page?

Just joined Strava and downloaded 2 years worth of data and have 2 KOMs without knowing where the segments were just out pedaling!
Quite a few top 10s also but now I know where the segments are maybe a bit more effort will be given! wink

If KOMs are so important to people maybe a bit of racing would get a bit of perspective!

People riding like dicks isn't strava's fault - it just makes them more noticable.

Imo, strava is still the best new thing to have happened since they made brifters...

Strava is a love/hate thing for me. I deleted my account a while back because I got sick of the pressure I put on myself every time I went out, and still do to an extent. But for all the horrid reasons I deleted it, I created a new one!

Moral of the story is, don't take Strava too seriously. It's a bit of fun and one of many training tools in the box.

I confess to not always eating my own words though, like last night when I attempted a flat half mile segment. I pushed to within an inch of my life and actually felt a bit sick. However when I got home and uploaded the ride, it was clear I completely mis-judged where the segment started and ended. I was livid! Haha! biggrin
