Looks like a decent commuter/fun bike with the hydraulics and simple 1x10. Not sure how the 1x10 and the bar end shifter would compare against more gears and STI or equivalent. Saying that another shifter, front derailer and another front ring could give you 2x10

Fitting another chainring and front derailleur misses the point, it's supposed to be a simple commuter bike. I personally think that a 1x10 with an 11-36 cassette is probably the perfect urban commuter bike for most people - low maintenance, light, low enough gears for the unfit and it'll still do 30mph if you get the cadence up. And hydraulic discs are great. So they should sell millions of them.

But they won't - at least partly because the Hoy Shizuoka 002 is £200 cheaper.

I'd look at the 2014 Pinancle Neon 1 instead, loads cheaper and I'm pretty sure the RX1 mini-v brakes are cartridge pad compatible so you can fit some swissstop pads in there to compensate the lack of discs. Mrspablo has a Neon 2 and I was really impressed with the quality and the sub 22lbs weight. its quite a racey position but still pitches you fairly upright so you have good visibility in traffic. I'd suggest the Charge Grater too but it looks like tehy have dropped the 1x9 bike from the range?

Cheers for the replies. Looking at the Hoy bikes website I am very surprised that they don't do a cx type bike with disks

The current range is their first year, so they've concentrated on the CTW and hybrid sector. Give them time... everyone else is doing CX bikes so I'd expect they will.
