Shimano 105 Replacement Question
Discussion
Dear all,
Need some help. I have to replace the whole drivetrain and wheels on my road bike. My current road bike runs a Shimano 105 Compact set (5600 I think)
At the moment, I have selected a 5700 chain and a 5700 cassette. However, when I select the chain rings the only option is 5750 kit. Is this compatible with my other options?
Many thanks,
Matt

5750 (I think) is the compact stuff for the 5700 105 line-up.
FWIW you don't need 5700 chain and cassette: SRAM, KMC etc stuff all works (as long as it's 10sp) so you might be able to save yourself a couple of quid
And chainrings from the likes of TA, Middleburn etc, as long as they're the right BCD, should work too.

KMC Chain would be better, they are bidirectional and come with a reusable KMC Quick Link (or you can buy on it's own for a fiver to fit onto a Shimano chain). Shimano chains are unidirectional and come with a poxy fiddly pin that is inferior.
Also, the 105 crankset is very similar to the FC-R565 non series one which can be had for about half the 105 price from bike-discount.de amongst others.

Uni-directional chains are, IIRC, for Dura-Ace 7800-7900 and Ultegra 6700-6800. Not that they're necessary. All over Shimano chains (made by KMC, IIRC) are as normal. And a lot more reliable Also, the 105 crankset is very similar to the FC-R565 non series one which can be had for about half the 105 price from bike-discount.de amongst others.

EDIT: If I'm able to recall such information about bicycle chains, no friggin' wonder I'm single
