Ashton Court advice/recommendations

I have suggested to a friend that we should go over thyere for an afternoon on the bikes for a laugh. Only problem is that he doesnt have one. I have very kindly offered to lemd him my xc bike and I am willing to slum it on my heavy old dh bike for the afternoon.

I suppose all I'm asking is will I be ok lugging around a old heavy full suss dh bike or will I hate the place/bike by the end of it?

Never been but want to enjoy it and want him to enjoy as well so I have a riding buddy close.

you could do AC on a raleigh chopper as its reasonably flat all round so i wouldn't worry too much. Make sure while you're there you also go into Leigh Woods and fifty acre wood. In Ac there is a new bike shop and cafe and I think they might do bike hire as well. pedal progression.

Although it's flat it's quite good fun, the surface drains well too. It does get busy though and you might get frustrated if you're quick as it gets a lot of plodders, strava stuff here

The better trails are in Leigh woods and worth a look, it's easy to find if you're not a local, come out of Ashton court by the top gatehouse, turn left and then right after 100 yards or so on to North Rd/St and you can't miss it the start of the trails

Thanks for that. Should be a good afternoon ride then. Thinking of going a weekday afternoon so hopefully not to busy or 'ploddy'. Think I may let him have my xc and see what thehire bikes are like, never know the bike shop may make a sale .

The hire bike there are pretty decent.

If an occasional rider, probably cheaper than buying a bike, and no cleaning to do either!

Thanks for the offer of the hose, I think!! We are using my mates van so that can get as dirty as possible , I provide the bikes he provides the transport

You might get a bit bored on a DH bike, hire a hard tail and have some fun on that! It is a pretty rewarding ride on a HT.

Right then. Thanks for the advice all, have decided to go and lend my xc bike to my mate, so long as I can get the brakes working properly bloody avids are a PITA. I will hire one just so I can try out a new bike.

Gave the bike shop that is there and they hire out Norco hard tails at the moment but are hoping to get some full suss ones in soon as well.
