Frame Respray

I've got an old aluminium road frame that I'd like to get resprayed so I can rebuild it just for exercise to lose weight, however I note that Graham Weigh do a basic 7005 aluminium frame with carbon forks for £150 - which is about the same as any respray I've found.

Any recommendations of places either in Kent/London/Surrey or with cheap postage?

Graham Weigh frames were great at one time, they were made by Paul Donohue in the 90s, not sure nowadays I suspect they will be made in the far east

I have a Reynolds 853 Paul Donohue GW frame and it's lovely

Bob Jackson cycles will do a one colour re-spray for £90, £10 or so each way on a courier.

I think you'll find 99.9% of alloy frames are made in the far east. Nothing wrong with that to be honest. i would get a new frame. Better/ newer geometry. No stresses you cant see etc and probably a bit lighter.

If you only want one solid coulour, go for a powdercoat. Most powdercoaters charge £40 to £60, I used one in Aldershot and they did a top job.

You could always try painting the old frame yourself - if you're considering replacing it, you've nothing to lose and you might learn a bit in the process.

Difficult to get a feel for the finish from this poor photo but I recently did an old frame of mine with some rattle cans from B&Q and it turned out alright:

I might know of someone who will be able to spray it for you. They are in Greenhithe(kent)

They have sprayed lots of car parts for my brother - usually with a very good finish.

Sure it can be done for less than £150 - you can always do the prep work yourself.

You'll pay less at a local bodyshop as they'll chuck it in with other work that makes them a lot more money. Cycle refinishers are expensive as it's not a very profit heavy market, it's no trouble for a bodyshop though.

I'd expect about £80, less if you know someone that works there.
Bit if you're going single colour if reccomend powdercoat as per the guy up there ^

Was £40 and they did a great job.

Sure not as perfect as £150 elsewhere but if its just making an old frame nice as opposed to super-bling then

Yeah there was a bit of overspray here and there and there's now a scratch or two poking through (not their fault really)but £40!!
