I have just signed up for the Cycle to work scheme and now I have to make the decision of what bike.

I currently have a Trek MTB which I have stuck some road tyres on and am happily clocking up the miles but I am doing more and more road miles and am also planning a London to Brighton, London to Amsterdam and round the Isle of Wight for next year so want a road bike.

I am limited to Halfords or someone they are able to order in from and after a bit of a look, I am looking at the Boardman team Carbon for £999.

Before I spend my whole budget of £1000 on the Boardman, could anyone tell me if this is alright or if there is something else I should consider.

As I said, I want something that can eat through the miles and be a nice place to sit. I am about 6'2" if that would make a difference

Those Boardmans are great bikes from what ive read. That will be my next bike. I'm in the same boat as you where im only limited to Halfords but they had decent bikes. I currently have a Carrera Vulcan with upgraded suspension from C2W and cant fault it at all. I'd say go with the Boardman and stick on some road tyres and you should rach up the miles.

Its really hard to spend £1000 and end up with a bad road bike these days, some are better than others but only marginally so. The Boardman road bikes are a very good, I had an eary Alu one which was superb. If you must sit on the bike you are buying first you will limit your options but i appreciate some people like to do that. Keep an open mind, do loads of research on what size you will need (all the geo data for all the bikes is available online but at a guesstimate, a 58cm sloping top tube frame will fit you fine) and you can find a slightly better bike for the money.
