Carbon hardtails

Is there any carbon hard tails out there for around £1000? Also what are people's view on the Chinese carbon bikes and any good web sites for them?

Don't see the point unless you want a super-light XC race bike. The one above is carbon but certainly is not light.

I'm very happy with my cheap carbon Planet X bike (CX). Maybe it is a cheap Taiwanese frame, but Giants factory is out there somewhere too...

Was looking at the lurcher... What's people's view on them?

Happy with my C456 and rides lighter than it looks. For a 'longer' travel hardtail, its pretty good. Doesn't climb as good as my Scandal, but it isn't meant to. I do enjoy riding away rides on the 456 , bike parks , lookout etc.

Likewise, i've battered my 456 through hell and back, great bike. 3.3lb frame too, maybe heavy compared to many other carbon bikes, but its still a good bit lighter than thire ti frame. Apparently the area around the bb and headtube is solid and 11mm thick... I like that.

I have an original Inbred thats got to be 10 years old now and have been considering completing the triggers broom cycle with a new on one frame, I'm having trouble deciding between a Whippet or 456 carbon as the old inbred geo seems to be between the two. Most riding is XC with the odd trail centre such as Ceod y brenin black runs thrown in, any suggestions which would be the frame to go for? I have a Commencal Supreme for when things are more downhill / freeride.

I have a whippet and a mate has a 456. Id say his is more of an allrounder than mine which has more agressive geo. Flies uphill and xc but is twitchy on the technical rough stuff.

Both great bikes though.

Weighed both My Scandal and C456 last night. There is only 1/2 lb between them !! But they ride so different. The C456 is 25lb with talas forks, XT bits and Goldtec/ Mavic wheels , with pedals. Its not as nimble on the climbs, but it thunders down the other side.

I've got a Lurcher myself, managed to get the frame and forks for £400 in a sale. Awesome bike, in fairness I haven't ridden any other carbon MTB but it's amazing fun and pretty damn light.

The Scandal is pretty light as an Ally frame though so is comparing light ally vs. heavy(ish) carbon.

Sorry.... Which is the 456??? Is it a full bike or just a frame?

I bought mine as a frame only, but they do full builds I believe.

Out or interest, how is a £1000 Carbon hardtail any better than a £1000 Aluminium bike ( prob with better forks etc etc ?) !!

To be quite honest I just like carbon.... Probably not the best answer ha!
