Manchester Velodrome

Off to watch the UCI Track World Cup tomorrow at the Manchester velodrome. After a decent place for lunch which given the area may confine us to the velodrome. Is it the usual affair of over priced standard stadium grub?

We did a works day out there back in July, the cafe is pretty decent although I'm not sure I'd be banking on that to cater for a full venue, it was more setup for those who work there. Bring a packed lunch is my advice ;-)

I can't think of anywhere decent to eat (that is not a taxi ride away)
There is a Asda a short walk away, the food in the velodrome is "fast food/canteen style"

If you are going to both day and evening sessions you will get "kicked out" of the velodrome between the two, most people seem to head to the Asda Cafe which gets manic, otherwise it's McDonalds or bring your own. Velodrome catering is pretty limited unless you have posh centre track tickets .
Going by bike looks a good option , 300 free parking places then £10 to park on Saturday as Man City are playing at home. The rise in popularity has certainly increased the cost of going.

Loads of buses go from Piccadilly Gardens to the Velodrome, you want a 216, 235 or a 237. Much easier than parking nearby and I'd eat beforehand, Manchester has loads of usual suspects, Pizza Express etc around the Arndale Centre. There isnt much legroom in the stands either but for you thats not an issue

We're banking on getting there early and grabbing one of the free parking spaces but at least we now have a plan B! Parking at Corporation St. is £3.50 all day.

An amazing day with some great results for the Brits. Definitely won't be the last time we watch track cycling.

Hi

Off to the national champs for session 4 this Saturday which is 5-10pm so unhelpfully slap in the middle of prime scoffing time

Will there be anything remotely decent to eat inside, a pie would be fine, or should we make other plans?
Im surprised that an event like this wouldnt put any catering on

Think there was only a handful of burger places on site and a nearby maccy d's or similar (as well as an asda), if I went again, I'd probably stick a picnic in a bag and take it with me

Thanks - we did Revolution last year which was a bit later so we ate at home and didnt pay any attention to what was on offer

We did treat ourselves to some nice pancakes trackside which were very nice and good value but I just cant recall seeing anything else

Not sure if I fancy nipping out half way through to McD's, any one else been to an event recently?
