Carrera Zelos any good?

Does anyone have any real experience of a Carrera Zelos? I'm looking at a second hand one for about £150

Not after anything flash like a Scott or Cannondale etc but something to do 20 miles on at weekends.

No experience of them but hey are only £269 new at the moment Zelos so providing its in mint/very good condition, its a good deal. Shocking value at £600 however but good enough for 20 milers at the weekend for £269 but you will get bitten by the bug!...

I had a close look at one of these as a starter road bike for my gf.

I really wouldn't recommend one, even at a stupidly reduced price there is better for similar money.

They run a 7 speed group set that slots in below 2300 - I've no personal experience but all I've heard is bad things,
I was going to go through and make a list but its easier to say that the spec is poor across the board

The classic advice for a first road bike is a red triban. The tdf isn't bad (I've got one and can't quite bring myself to get rid of it) and as they are down to 299 at the moment, 10% British cycling discount and the 10% off weekend stack to take it to £240.

The new ones are also fitted with 2400 - which isn't reflected on the spec on the website and it is a big improvement on the thumb shifters on the 2300 groupset.

I'd consider the tdf to be a bottom end road bike and the zelos is below that.... Don't do it...

Edited to add, sorry didnt consider the secondhand factoe. There's lots better out there for the same budget even at £150.... I paid that for my tdf, especially as the weather is getting nasty now there should be deals to be had :-)

Can I recommend adding carrera virtuoso and TDF to eBay / Gumtree etc searches. Also triban 3 (red ones are better spec than white ones).

Ask Jonnny how happy he is with his Carrera Virtuoso... but for £150, if it's working properly it's still great value.

If in good condition you won't go wrong for £150. Use it, get the bug, and then get your money back or more on it. Maybe keep it as the winter bike.

If its still got the original horrifically nasty kenda tyres on it, switching them out for something better will make a massive difference :-)

Otherwise now you've got it, enjoy it :-)
