Basic Cadence Question (sorry!)

I have a Cateye computer on my bike that measures cadence. The sensor is on the left hand crank and chainstay.
I was on the turbo last night and my cadence peaked at 192rpm.

Is that just for my left leg? Or is the right side included in that?

Think you may have it calibrated badly. Regardless the figure is for one revolution of the pedal, doesn't matter left or right, unless you hang one leg off and let the other do all the work

That's the number of complete revolutions of the crank per minute. That's a very high number though, so I would guess that something else was interfering with the reading, or maybe it was picking up two magnetic signals per revolution. 'Normal' cadence (not that there is any such thing) varies either side of around 90rpm.

You would have been spinning like a Tasmanian devil at 192rpm. Not impossible, but you would know you were doing it.

That must've been a great Road Runner impersonation at that speed; bouncing off the ceiling let alone the seat!

I can't see how or why there would be interference.
It usually reads correctly when out on the road.
It was a peak reading, and I was spinning like a top.

I'll try and get a video next time!

I thought the 120rpm I can just about manage was fast, f##K me if that's right at 192 that would be warp speed!

I have seen 150/160rpm on the road spinning properly, I do ride track and you have to pedal faster to go faster (fixed gear/wheel)

You can get very high spike readings by holding the crank near the sensor and fidgeting with the crank up and down quickly.

160/170rpm you are bouncing up and down a fair bit in or off the saddle but do able.

I would be incredibly surprised if you actually managed over 190 rpm.

It was a peak cadence, not sustained over any period of time.

After reading this thread I thought that I would see what I could get to on the TT this evening, hit 178rpm seated without looking at the display while spinning, I reckon I could go higher with a little more effort/focus...
