Winter Socks / Vented Shoes?

Neoprene overshoes will keep your toes all snuggly, at least for a couple of hours. Beyond that, and your sweat will get chilled and those toes will turn blue. That was always with 'normal' socks, I don't have any specific winter socks. The neoprene overshoes will help keep your feet dry too, at least from road spray. I've never spent more than £25 on overshoes, I don't feel the need.

The other option would be winter boots, all Goretex and insulated linings. I've followed threads about them on here, but can't justify the cost for the amount of winter riding I currently do. Maybe if I did a winter commute by bike the cost/VFM maths would work out in their favour?

I usually go for craft toewarmers to keep the toes warm (they also cover up the bottom vent) and then a de feet oversock to keep shoes clean, or if wet then a neoprene overshoe. De Feet Wollie Bollie socks are good.

You could always put duck tape over the vents.

I did that last year but taped it up from the inside - a little less unsightly!

The nose of my saddle is a bit worn so I got some of this:

Once applied it’s very similar to the little blobs of glue that they use to stick shampoo samples etc into magazines.

It’s worked on the saddle and as I’ve got a lot of it left I’m going to have a go at gluing over the vents at the front of my MTB SPD shoes and see if it works. Once dry it should have enough flex in it to not crack and in theory I can just peel it of in the spring.

Merino socks and some overshoes get my vote

I use non waterproof shoes, Sealskinz then I seal the top with off cuts from an old wetsuit. Totally dry feet even if immersed. I hate overshoes!

My feet are cold pretty much outside of July and August. This is with Woolie Boolie socks, and another pair of socks too, so have been cutting down carrier bags and putting my socked feet in them and then into the shoes. It's fine for a couple of hours, but I'll be looking at some of the options mentioned above. I have a cheap pair of overshoes but they don't seem to keep the cold out.
