Viking Challenge
Discussion
Anyone doing the Viking Challenge tomorrow?
It was very much a last minute decision for me today, so a mate and me will be hoping to get some of the last available sign-in-on-the-day places tomorrow morning.
Heard good things about it, so looking forward to a nice ride.

Well, what can I say?
This was a fantastic, very well organised event. 1500 riders set off at 10 minute intervals along a tough (but not impossible) route with fantastic signage and marshals at all junctions cheering and encouraging all riders.

2:49 (moving) for me, well happy with that as I wanted under 3 hours and the route was actually a few miles longer than I was expecting.
I'll definitely be doing this again next year and would recommend it to anyone.

This year was my 2nd year doing this event, both years have been with very little practise and preparation.
Last Year 4hr 30 start to finish
This year 3hr 20 start to finish - 3hr 5 moving time. At least this year I knew that 50k actually means closer to 60k!
2hr49 is an impressive time, a few of our group hit 2hr30 ride time with the slowest (who had never done it before) coming in at 3hr35 start to finish.
This year was a massively better course (same route as last year) as it was much drier than last year. I think they need to lose or bypass the really rutted section though as it is just a slow push through that bit!

Yeah that section was a bit frustrating wasn't it? I didn't have to get off and push at any time (even on some of the brutal climbs) but that section was very stop-start with the bottle-neck and a numpty in front who kept trying to go but was just constantly falling over in a comedy fashion
