Re-using KMC missing link connectors

I'm currently running 2 chains on my bike in an effort to maximise cassette/sprocket/ chain life. One on the bike and one soaking in petrol, swapping them over every couple of weeks.

I use KMC X9 chains with missing link connectors. The packaging on the chains says not to re-use the Missing-Link connectors - although it's not clear if this means not to reuse them after the chain is worn out or every time you take the chain off. I re-use the connectors every time I swap the chains over but bin them along with the chain when it's stretched beyond its limit.

Should I be using a new connector every time I swap the chains over ?

There are 2 different types, you need to buy the reusable type

I thought the KMC ones were all re usable, it's the black Sram ones which you can't use again. I've swapped the KMC ones onto other chains no problem except when they are difficult to split without a tool - I assume these are too worn and throw away.

I've used re-usable and non re-usable ones over and over. Can't recall the last time I chucked one away. Have snapped numerous chains never caused by the quick link.

Wasn't aware there were re-usable and non-reusable KMC versions for the same cassette type - for the sake of what, £5, I'd just order another pair of links that you know are reusable for sure and replace what you've got.

I've been running the 10SP Shimano missing links on a few bikes for several years and they are great. I've had no problems with them whatsoever, and they get a ton of re-use, since I tend to clean my chain by splitting it at the link, shaking it in a bottle full of white spirit, then drying and re-lubing off the bike.

The link-decoupler pliers you can get for about £5 on Wiggle are possibly the most amazing things I've ever bought - saved me plenty of skinned knuckles and oily fingers trying to persuade sticky missing links from unhooking!
