As per the title thinking of capturing footage of the more enjoyable aspects of the weekly mtb runs and wondered where people have found best for mounting the camera and with what equipment.

I have seen all kinds of fixtures for helmets, chest straps, handle bar mounts and seat post mounts. Advice on what to try and what to avoid would be great.

Thanks

I have tried putting my Go-Pro on a few different places, handlebar works OK but every bump is relayed to your video plus you will get a bit sea sick if the vid lasts for more than a couple of mins.

Seatpost pointing backwards can give quite a good effect - especially if you are riding ahead of a few mates, if you are riding solo and are watching the trail spin by backwards it can be a bit hard going!

Helmet mount is OK, but the best I have found is the Garmin chest mount, the camera is always pointing forwards, the video is quite stable and you can see the rider controlling the bike (gears, brakes, steering etc)....

As above Ive tried out helmet, chest and handlebars. Helmet is better than bars as they do pick up every bump/jolt and the chest rig gives some good footage. Top tip though if you are running a GoPro on a chest rig, turn it upside down or you will have footage of knees and floor. If you need a better explantion I can post a pic up for you later.

You can get some interesting shots using the roll bar mount on the downtube facing forwards.

Ive had a roll bar mount saved and not bought it yet, may have to now and see what it looks like.

I'v eseen a great vid in the past of a camera mounted on a boom above a full face helmet, looking back at the rider's head. Shows the articulation of the body/arms and gives a great sense of speed too. I can't find it now, but it was similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8bpri44DPY

ETA: 1 min 20 sec onwards is good here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBTpieE4cwI

As other have said chest mounts are the best for good footage.
Helmet mounted doesn't give as good a sence of speed.

The best ones I've watched have been chest mounted.
