New road pedals wanted - recommedations?

When you buy a new bike it never stops at just the bike, now I need want new pedals.

I'm currently running Shimano 105s, cheap at £40 and have covered almost 10k under my cleats, they are looking shabby now and could do with being replaced.

Obvious answer to wanting a bit of bling is to go Ultegra carbon but I fancy trying something else, I'm looking at Look Keo Max 2s and Time Xpresso 8, the latter having low weight and higher surface area, I've ruled out Speedplays as I don't want the 'hassle' of thier cleats.

So yeah, blingy looks, performance and reliability are what's required!

I have Speedplays on all 3 road bikes and have never had any hassle with the cleats. Takes a few rides to get them setup correctly but once they are setup they're fine. Dab of oil on the cleat spring every now and again and that is about the most maintenance I have had to do!

If it aint broke don't fix it is what I'm thinking at the mo, as I have a similar "dilemma"

Switched to Speedplays this summer, was worried about the "hassle" but it's proved a non-issue so far. A drop of oil whenever I oil the chain and that's all the maintenance they've needed.

They were slightly stiff to begin with but loosened up rapidly and are now easier to get in to than my previous (MTB style) SPDs were. Very impressed.

Speedplay are pretty popular.

I have Time RXS and really like them. I have the cheap version on the winter bike, blingy carbon on the nicer one.

Speedplays also have the benefit of being double sided, which can be handy if you commute.

I also have 105s and mine are over a year old and have done about 4k, however they are looking pretty scruffy. I have tried someone elses speedplays and I was quite impressed

However, when I di upgrade, I shall probably just buckle and buy the Ultegras...
