Doesn't have the usual barometric altimeter. Garmin Connect should correct the readings when you upload.

Looks like our routes crossed today http://app.strava.com/activities/80928095

One of my ride partners recorded over 2000ft for the same ride. He has an 800 with barometric and mine is a Forerunner without. His was paused at the meeting point and he somehow lost 400ft when we started!

Strava/Garmin is balls for elevation and I've given up looking tbh.

Couple of possibilitie:

Barometric elevation is based on air pressure. Air pressure also changes due to weather systems rolling through - one of the first things you do in an aeroplane is set the altimeter to the ground level pressure where you are. Weather seemed pretty mixed today, hence possibly a rapid change in the ground level pressure. I think you can set calibration points of known elevation with the garmin too.

The other one is that the barometric sensor is a tiny slit in the casing. Not hard for it to get blocked in the wet.

I have the 910xt with barometer and height readings are definitely erratic. The silliest is when I get a significant altitude difference when open water swimming!

Some of the 910XTs have faulty barometric sensors. We had one replaced.
