Grease / Lube / Oil

I am stripping down my '04 Spesh Rockhopper as it has a few years of use and abuse. I want to use it on the wet days for commuting to keep my roadie clean and dry.

I need grease for bearings and general assembly and oil/lube for all the other bits.

Anyone have some recommendations as the variety of options at the LBS is bewildering.

Slight add on - What chain oil do people recommend?

Also I'm sure I read you have to remove and clean the chain before oiling it?

I use TF2 grease for bearings etc, Green Oil for pivots and as chain lube in wet conditions, and Muc-Off C3 chain lube for dry (and to lube Speedplay cleats). Apart for Speedplay-specific grease for pedal bearings, that's my lot. Chain and cassette degreased thoroughly weekly along with a good clean of the whole bike, bike stripped and rebuilt with a bearing regrease every couple of thousand KM.

Finish line grease for bearings, threads etc.

Muc Off ceramic (wet or dry) for chain, jockey wheels and derailleurs.

GT85 for a general squirt on other stuff - clean/disperse and a bit of lubricant

I recently discovered Chainl No.5 as a chain lube, excellent stuff but I am fairly sure it is re-badged gearbox oil. Either way it works really well, stays in the links of the chain for ages and does not seem to attract much road muck.....

For grease I have been using Rocn'n'roll 'King of the lubes' super web and super slick grease - good stuff, lasts for ages but as with anything else cycle related is not cheap!

For bearings I use Halfrauds multi purpose grease and for general assembly I use coppaslip/copper grease. Chain lube is finishline wet and their dry lube. Top tip is dont use the white lithium grease, Ive had a few bikes brought to the workshop asking for seat post to be removed where Lithium grease has caused corrosion, usually alloy seat post in a steel frame.
