Cheap city bike (sub £100)

I've decided that I want to keep my road bike for leisure and quite fancy a crappy city bike which I don't really need to worry about leaving outside the office or pub for longer periods of time.

I have a pretty good lock - a kryptonite new york - but still worry about elements of my bike being taken and don't fancy carrying wheels, seats etc round the office.

What's the best way to approach this? Local ads, ebay, gumtree? Build it myself with bargain parts over a period of time?

Really want to go for a retro drop handlebar look (not a fixie).

I'd say go for eBay, my mate has a habit of accruing way to many bikes from the bay. Some good bargains to be had at that end of the market

dont bother with ebay, go old school and look in the free ads of your local paper, supermarket notice boards etc etc. car boot sales are pretty good too, there are often a few old bikes for sale that only need minor attention to be a reliable workhorse.

Pretty small pool of bikes you'd be choosing from. My local papers nothing but Halfords specials.

to be fair, a retro look drop bar roadie wil lget attention from thieving scrotes round my way. Dont assume that thieves arent now becoming aware of what is in trend and has a resale value.

so it sounds like a secnod hand halfords special is ideal... i spent £60 on my pub bike and a £2 lock from a local hardware store...
