Slime

Possibly a dim question, I have slime filled tubes on my MTB. Just got a flat, 10 miles from home. Can't seem to get any air into valve, is this because slime has blocked it? New to these tubes so haven't had this problem before. Any suggestions? Fortunately I have a lovely view to look at whilst thinking about it .....

I have heard that to be a problem. Did you add the Slime yourself via the valve or did you buy the Pre filled ones? I don't know for sure, but always suspected that if you fill yourself the valve is much more likely to get clogged up with the stuff.

Sounds like the slime has blocked the valve, you'll need a high pressure air line from a garage to blow it through

I apologise in advance for this very patronising question: Have you changed valve type with the new tubes, from Schraeder to presta? And if so, have you unscrewed the valve?

I had this probelm once when trying to change old worn out tyres.
The tubes were Slime ones and I couldn't let air out as the valve had 'healed'.

Tried to puncture the tyres to get the air out....ha ha,the Slime laughed at me.

Ended up having to hacksaw through the tyres and tubes to get the air out so I could get the tyres off.

Slime? Never again!

Not at all patronising. Yes Presta valves and no I hadn't

Thank you so much! Found a thorn in the tyre, inner tube seems to have sealed itself so seems all worked as it should, especially now I've managed to put some air in.

What a dimbo, at least I've learnt something though!

Probably of no use now but, the cutting edge of a pair of pliers across the valve stem will make quick work of it. Slime does not like Presta valves(why don't they make replacement cores for them?) but is more amenable to Schrader where in the unlikely event of a blockage, the core can be replaced.
