Traffic free cycle routes
Discussion
Hi all
Is there a website listing traffic free leisure cycle paths/ old railway paths etc?
We take the bikes on the camper van so it would be useful to see whats about before we load the bikes.
The wife is not a confident cyclist so traffic free is what we are after.
I can find the odd site but nothing that gives any detail on a national basis, sustrans seems to be more commuting than leisure.
Thanks

Google maps has a cycle option, or http://www.cyclestreets.net
Canal towpaths ? http://canalrivertrust.org.uk/canals-and-rivers
Also most county councils should list their disused railway routes.

Sustrans probably has the best national coverage, it is colour coded for on-road, traffic free etc and they have a smartphone app if you're so equipped.Assuming your forum name is accurate you have a wonderful trails from Bristol to Bath and from there onwards south all traffic free, probably 30mile round trip, possibly the longest traffic free, tarmaced cycle path in the country? Anyone know of a longer one?
I live in Dorset and we have a nice Olympic funded traffic free path all the way from Dorchester, through Weymouth and on to the Isle of Portland, about 10miles 99% off-road and fully tarmaced surface.

A couple of weeks ago I cycled to Bath (about 25 miles) to see the finals of the JP Morgan Rugby 7's. Only about 1/2 mile was on a busy A road. Most was the K&A towpath - biggest issue being other cyclists!Assuming your forum name is accurate you have a wonderful trails from Bristol to Bath and from there onwards south all traffic free, probably 30mile round trip, possibly the longest traffic free, tarmaced cycle path in the country? Came back using the new Two Tunnel route in Bath; absolutely amazing particularly the 1 mile tunnel under Combe/Claverton Down; beats Brassknocker Hill for starters
