Anyone done it? I am 6ft 6 riding a Wilier XL that I know is too small. Done 2k miles on it and now time fora change to get more comfortable fitting and efficiency.

So Trek Project One was out in front of me. 64cm top tube etc - full custom fit (not custom frame) etc....

Just looking for thoughts if anyone one down this route or if you like me are tall and went another route?

Ta. DJ

Not a Project One, but did have a Madone 4.5, and had the cheaper of the two fit options. Had the follow-up fit session, and at the end of the ride, couple of miles from home, got wiped out by a 4x4 - bike written off. GPS trace goes 75kph------------60kph---40kph-0kph. Frame *looks* unmarked. I won't be riding it again.

Anyway, the shop have been wonderful. New bike is a 2014 Madone 4.7, with some customisation (changed cable, bartape, stem, headset and saddle colour, but standard paintjob and Hope wheels. Should be here 1st week of September - the shop have said they will set it up as per my previous setup for pickup.

I'm 190cm, but tend to like a longer bike than other people my height (I'm skinny and relatively flexible) and ended up with a 60, despite expecting to need a 62. The fit experience was really good - I took the bike away and set it up as per my other bikes, rode it for a while, then went back and had the fitting. I did this because I was pretty sure I could get close, given I do a lot of long distance riding, and know what works for me. Still, despite this, small chages to saddle height, fore and aft, tilt, and stem height made a decent difference. However, the effects of the cleat setup were amazing - felt like I was much better aligned on the bike - plus I got 4 pairs of shoes setup at the same time (I've I'd been more organised, I'd have taken all 6 pairs!). However, the best bit was going back after a big month of riding, and having the final tweaks - the bike felt incredible - felt like the bike was really working with me.

I guess I've had the poundshop equivalent of Project One, I can only imagine how good it would be with the full fit, and all the options to play with.

The Project One configurator is a dangerous place to be! The signature series paint jobs are bloody expensive at £620 but apart from that I guess the experience could transform riding comfort for some.

Can't you just get a retul bike fit for £150 ish, and work out which bike would be best suited from there on? (would be my way of doing things, unless you specifically want to spunk 1000's on a new bike!

Yep, been there & done that. I have a Madone 7 series. Would suggest that you do this in conjunction with a bike shop as you can have / get them to source parts not on the configurator (I have a Rotor 3d+ rather than DA 90000 cranks and ring done as a straight wash) and the saddle I have is a Fizik Kurve rather than Bontrager....

Best to get a fit first, I'm a short ar$e, but ride a 54 (mind you even a small Venge wouldnt work either, so I must be proper odd).

Be prepared for long wait though if paint job is custom (I went Vapor coat, maybe not again as it picks up chips like fk)....

Oh, and if you go to Bespoke in London (if you are based there); the fit is kinda thrown in (well you spend >2.5k on the bike and it is; which you will do on a Project One). This includes pre bike selection, on the bike when it arrives, cleats etc.

Thank you all so far....

I had a full fitting from Velocity in Portsmouth and seems I need 64cm frame. Spent days doing different configs and colours (got slammed by boss today as one was shocking)

Not going to pay £600+ for custom paint but will do a few other things. Current spec is well over £3.5k but will do final selection on Saturday when I am planning on ordering.

It's an investment right??? Please please tell me that as Mrs says its like setting fire to cash but I then refer her to the rules......
