Pedal thread Dia?

On a girls/kids bike? I have not got the old pedal that has seized, need to take a set of pedals with me to fix a girls bike at the weekend, trying to get the mother to measure but........ she does not know what a inch is! (let alone 12"!) What would you go for 1/2" or 9/16"?

Girls bike is a pink/white thing for a 8/9 year old.

A rough guide is one piece cranks are 1/2", three piece are 9/16". I'd go for 9/16" as this is what the majority are.
