My Spesh Tricross Sport has got some lumpy old 32mm Borough CX tyres fitted which, as my commute is all tarmac, are probably not ideal.

So I thought I'd treat myself to some go-faster rubber. Looking around on various fora, the consensus seems to be 700c x 25mm are the best size to go for.

That's fine, except that as my bike is a rather dull matt black with black trimmings, I thought I'd liven it up a bit with some red bits on the tyres. Except that all the coloured tyres seems to be only available in 23mm width.
That right? or am I missing some techie reason that 25mm tyres have to be black on black? There must be something a bit more appealing out there!

Irritating, isn't it?

Go for Continental GP4000S in 25mm black and drop the vanity. It's what I'm going to have to do next when I move to 25mm frown

If you want tartiness with a feint hint of retro, then Vittoria Open Corsa SCs (tan sidewall) can be had in 700 x 25mm, as can Veloflex Masters. Challenge Parig-Roubaix are available in 700 x 28mm with tan sidewalls, IIRC. All three are lightweight tyres so don't expect much/any puncture resistance nor longevity.

I wanted black/black anyway, but UltremoZX are only coloured in 23. I guess they assume that only old buggers ride 25mm, and should know better than be so tarty.

I've got black Ultremos ZX 23 mm on my Planet X, the worst tyre I've ever used. Going back to Conti 4000S's which are just about the best all round all weather tyre you can buy.

Guess it'll be black or tan sidewalls then frown

Does seem a bit strange that no tyre company does coloured tyres in anything except 23mm width. Definitely a gap in the market there!

25s are getting more popular (see: this years TdF) so hopefully someone will address this soon...

If they're good enough for Paris-Roubaix...

Continental ultra sports come in colours in 25c. The whole tyre is that colour mind!
