Cycle "computer" on but no input/output
Discussion
I have a very old cycle computer (as old as the bike, mid-90s at a guess) but with a new battery it came to life. Trouble is it doesn't measure any output, it just stays on 0 for everything except when I set the time. I assume there are no moving parts in the pick-up? Is it worth digging any further or just buy a new one? Seems a bit of a waste when it will do all I need

try some sandpaper to the connectors on the mount
if that fails:

Looks like a long way between the magnet and the sensor. Take the magnet off the spoke, and try waving it back and forth over the sensor (close up). If it then works, slide the sensor down the fork leg and refit the magnet. Other potential pitfalls are the cabling where it connects to the bracket on the handlebar (soldering iron to fix) or like has been said already, corrosion to the pins, either on the bracket, or the head unit, or both. Clean them up and use a spray of WD40 or specialist lubricant to get the best contact.
Other than this, if it's a cheap or very old unit, and has been left with a dead battery or kept out in all weathers, it might just be dead. I'd recommend CatEye stuff. I use wired units on my roadie and MTB - Mity8 and Enduro8, which are identical head units and brackets, but the Enduro has a heavier duty cable for off-road use. Alternatively, try wireless - my kids both have CatEye Strada wireless computers on their bikes, all good so far.
