Going electric........

......... No not an e bike but Di2.
I have a chance to get a Di2 groupset for a very decent price as part of a potential frame upgrade (frame Di2 specific if selected with the groupset and a bargain too).
I've always been happy with mechanical gears, comfortable tweaking them and in modern higher end stuff I can get them lovely and smooth and obviously tinkering is quick, easy and can be done when out and about.
So, do I want the added complication of Di2? For those that have done it (I've only ever seen a set up working on a stand, not ridden it so need to do that):
Was it worth it after the initial wow factor?
Is it a faff to keep up together?
Has it left you stranded?

Is it worth it - yes.
Upkeep? - I have had issues with waterproofing (water got into the junction box under the bottom bracket and shorted the system, but easy to replace and I'm confident it won't happen again)
Left me stranded? No, but I did the entire route around Lake Geneva as a single speed (see above).
The quality of the product easily outweighs the one issue I've had.

so given the above - fine on a summer bike, but not on a winter machine? (genuine question for those that have used it...)
I have it on my winter bike too and have had no issues. That includes riding through water that came up over the bottom bracket last year (no I didn't know it was that deep!)Rolls said:

I think I was just unlucky. The plugs are supposed to be waterproof and it was only one wire/plug that had the problem (and easy to trace and sort). I have smothered everything in grease now and not experienced any repeats. I fully expect to ride in heavy rain again with it and I'm not anticipating any further problems.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
