Upgrading brake levers? - Islabikes Beinn 29

Just got my new Islabikes Beinn 29 yesterday and I am very happy with it, feels very light and is a great ride.
However I do not like the brake levers, they do not feel very substantial and I would prefer a more quality feel, is this an easy upgrade? the brakes are simple V brakes. The levers at the moment are Tektro.
While I am at it the shifter does not have a great action either, the gears are Sram x 5 10 speed is this a simple upgrade as well? can I just change the shifter mechanism and not the whole gear mechanism?
I don't expect much from a bike but I do like the bits I touch and interact with to have a nice quality feel. I am being picky but if its a cheap and easy upgrade on these things then I might take the plunge.
