We are looking forward to our first visit, especially the "try the latest bikes" bit.

Previous shows were poor, the problem is the US and European shows, Interbike and Eurobike are earlier in the year and manufacturers use them to unveil all the new kit so the uK show is pretty much ignored by the big brands who by htis point have blown all their marketing budget. Its a mornings worth of looking at stuff and then you go home. There is nothing much to buy either and what there is is either old kit or more expensive than usual...
The area for trying stuff is normally just a short loop around a car park outside so its not really ideal to assess a potential purchase, there is also limited bikes to try and they are usually the big brandsyou can try in most bike shops, you wont get go on a Cervelo, Swift or Neil Pryde for example...

Planning on going on Friday, went last year and enjoyed it.
Not being a hardcore roadie and not really having a clue about that sort of stuff it was good to have a look at some of the other bikes. I'm more BMX focused and the park contest is good if that's your thing, and quite a big BMX presence which is my usual interest.
Had complimentary tickets last year but having trouble getting any this year.....so if anyone has one going spare, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Oh well, ticket has been bought so I'll suck it and see.
I do enjoy going, if you read the mags and websites you'll already be aware of most of the new stuff, but it's nice to see it in the flesh, you'll also come across lots of stuff you didn't know about too.WAS looking forward to it - not so sure now.

Probably worth booking into the pro crit experience too, loads of bikes available to test ride.

Well I went yesterday and other than talking to a podiatrist for an hour it was good.
Some lovely bikes on show, of note:
De Rosa Sessanta 60th Anniversariy, , ali, Ti, steel and CF all gorgeous.
Condor Acciaio in stainless steel, saw it in midnight blue at the Handbuilt show in Bristol a few months ago, they had it in a light blue colour here and it was lovely again.
Colnago Master in Art Deco colours, always worth a look imo.
Specialized Allez S-Works, an amazing aluminium frame
Dutch city bike with BB mounted 18 speed gearbox, they also had amazing caramel waffles!
Cube have some amazing value road and MTBs and some mad paint schemes, worth a nose.
Only the E-Bike area was open yesterday so we didn't get to use the MTB test course or the road course which was disappointing.
The BMX show was quite good, suspect it'll be better on the public days.
Take some sandwiches with you, the canteen in the show is small and whilst not mega expensive it isn't the best, there is also a Subway in the entrance but it was mega busy, it'll be mad on public days!
Few more retail units this year, couple of sunglasses ones and some clothing.
Doombar there again, so pop along for a small sample or a half / pint, give the rowing challenge ago.

Sounds like you had a good day, on the topic of food at the NEC...I learnt years ago to take food with me, popping out to the car at lunchtime to eat helps break the day up too.Some lovely bikes on show, of note:

I too went yesterday and thought the show was much better than in previous years. There seemed to be more stands and the bike exhibitors certainly seemed to have invested more in their stands. Pinarello's stand was quite impressive, so was Enigma's.
I'm taking plenty of shopping money, were there many retailers?
