This weekend I'm hopefully picking up an old steel racer, I've found one on gumtree and it looks to be in pretty good nick, currently it is a mid-80s tastic white with purple 'effects', not really my cup of tea and it isn't nearly special enough to do a faithful restore.

I'm thinking a metallic pastel shade, simple and effective yet hopefully classy enough looking.

Pictures as always welcome, always good for inspiration smile

Good work on that one although my training bike is already 'stealth' so I fancy something a bit different.

Some of the current Fiat shades are quite eye-catching.

Saw an old school racer in gloss black with tan saddle and bar tape the other day. Looked lovely.

Mine is black with tan seat and bar tape, white forks though. Usually covered in mud as it's a cyclocross bike.

I love black, but would love an old racer in candle apple red.

I'm on the lookout for some cheap steel for a winter bike and have been thinking about colours too.

Metallics seem to work really well, reds, light greens / blues, bronzes, browns, cream is also a good choice too.

One of current favs is a Mk2 Golf colour called German Racing Green, really nice light metallic green, think it would great with brown tape and saddle.

Darkish metallic silver / grey can work well too, can be paired with either red or brown saddle and tape.

The same metallic orange as the new 1M. Or the gt86.

And make sure you put all the gears back on it.
