Shimano R501 Standard Spoke Clincher Wheels £69.95 per pair

Seems like a bit of a bargain

They pop up at about that price fairly regularly, decent enough wheels but very heavy (2kg+).

I'd be saving my cash for a pair of these tbh: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPXMDBV2/plan...

Planet X claim 'super lightness' in the blurb, but I can see no mention of the actual weight for comparison purposes? Ribble have a set of Shimano RS80 (24mm rims) for just £300, @ 1521 grams a pair. Shimano Ultegra 6700's are £270 on CRC at a slightly heavier 1652g pair. At this price range (£150 - £300) I'm never sure what real differences there are between wheelsets, as there is surely a price below which it's not really possible to produce half decent components. I know my factory wheels are quite heavy, with Ultegra hubs and boggo 'Alexrims' aluminium Aero profile rims, and I would probably benefit from an upgrade, but I can't seem to make up my mind, and if I'm honest, I'm holding out for permission from my personal finance advisor to blow the better part of £600 on something really nice, or going down the bespoke hand built route. I should have exaggerated the damage when I found a spoke snapped in the garage (too many bikes in there) as she would probably not have been any the wiser about the £15 repair cost, and would probably just have rolled her eyes and reluctantly given me the OK for a new wheelset. Opportunity lost there, I reckon.

~1620 grams per pair (without skewers). Not absolute lightest but great for the money. Supposed to be pretty reliable too, according to what I've read at least.

Nearly bought a set before I got my Braccianos.

Anybody got a guide for weight/price?

So, £100 for 1.9kg, £200 for 1.7-1.9kg... And so on.

Just started looking at wheels, budget is unknown really until I know what to spend to get a good set of racing wheels for 50 plus mile, rolling/hilly courses.

Not fussed about 30g or whatever but want to be competetive.
