Today's ride cost me...
Discussion
Everyone's had those times where a ride has cost them money. Be it a puncture, a crash or seeing another bike and going out and buying it!
Today, my ride managed to cost me £20 - the price of my shorts! I somehow managed to rip them on my saddle! Whoops...
So, what has your ride cost you today? Anyone else?

It was a couple of days ago but I got fed up of carrying my work laptop in a rucksack on my back so as I passed a Halfords I popped in to look at the options and came out with a rack and set of panniers for £80.
Rack was free as they had a 3 for 2 deal on and the lad there was really helpful even though he didn't really know what he was doing. He provided me with the tools to fit it there and then and I finished the ride home in much more comfort!
I'm sure there must be a 'happily surprised by Halfords' thread somewhere that this belongs in too.

In the strictest sense, I've not yet ridden today - unless you count some time on a Turbo Trainer. If TT time counts, then I've spent £165 on a Retul bike fit, which should hopefully reap benefits tonight and this coming Sunday. Thanks to Hobzy
and his recommendation from the ' What bits have you just bought thread'.
Last ride (Saturday morning) cost me one helmet, damage to bar tape and a hood cover and a grand total of 11 hours in hospital.
Last ride but one (Friday evening) cost me £17.80 to send a Gravity Dropper seatpost back to the US to be repaired under warranty (despite them knowing I bought it 6 years ago) after it snapped on my very first bit of singletrack.
All in all, not a great couple of days.

Rode some of the Tour de France between mont Ventoux and Paris on a coach package holiday, packed my bike up for transport back to the UK and left it in the hotel where the tour company had a reserved area for this and it was stolen.
This will just turn into a long running nightmare.

Ouch!
We has similar when we went mtb'ing in the alps 5 years back - easyjet lost our bikes on the way home...
Needless to say the guys behind the desk went from cocky to "oh s
t, this is not good" when we learned we had about 20k's worth of bike with us!
Turned out they forgot to take them off the plane when we landed, and they took a trip back to Geneva!
Back on topic.. just some degreaser today...

160 quid for a ruined 2 week old prevail helmet, bar tape, gravel rash and 2 broken ribs..
Pretty pleased with what the helmet did tho. Best NOT to look down at the cranks while trying to sprint away from the group - even briefly. Found some gravel, 'tucked' the front wheel and checked out over the bars at great speed. Duffer.

I've not even ridden anywhere and my bike has developed a puncture whilst stood in the kitchen... I wouldn't mind so much but it's done it twice now!
I'm just gobsmacked at how cycling can absorb cash!
One year when I was riding a lot, my MTB cost more to look after than both cars put together. I realised I needed to be a bit less spendy!I'm just gobsmacked at how cycling can absorb cash!

I'd suggest you strip it down and check the spoke tape is intact all the way round, and you haven't got the end of a spoke poking through which could be causing the punctures. Also check you've not got something stuck in the tyre which is causing punctures when you re-inflate the tube onto it, and also check the rims to see you've not got a sharp burr on them anywhere.I'm just gobsmacked at how cycling can absorb cash!
Broke handlebars, brake lever, shifter, rear mech, somehow shredded a cable on the Fort William red uplift run* last week. Made all the worse by man maths now playing on my mind that I should probably upgrade to 2x10 rather than just replace the broken 9sp stuff.
