Afternoon all,

The power button on my Edge 800 has stopped working, and it's outside warranty.

Garmin themselves are saying the only option they offer is a replacement service which will cost around £80 including the cost of the return postage which, given that it just needs a new switch soldering onto a circuit board, seems absolutely outrageous!

Does anyone know of any reputable third party repairers?

looking at mine just now on my desk, have you taken the screws off the back and had a look inside? is it not something you would be tempted to try and do yourself - perhaps borrow a soldering iron and have a poke around?

[famous last words on] just how hard can it be? [/famous last words off]

The screws are actually teeny-weeny allen bolts. So teeny that I don't have a small enough key, which is why I've not done exactly that yet, but I figured I'd start the thread on here in parallel.

Demand a replacement unit, I did when my Garmin buttons failed out of warranty (19 months old) and they replaced it, I just mentioned the sales of good act and m the expected lifetime of the unit/buttons should be more than 19 months.

Garmin will exchange it no matter what condition it's in, so if it's fked anyway you might as well gaff a go at fixing it yourself. If that doesn't work, just send them the bits!

I've just emailed them back to that effect, so will see what they say - and won't mess with it myself until they've done so! smile
