Anyone else doing the Wiggle Isle of Wight Ferry Sportive this weekend ?

I completed the standard route in 4:19 which I reckon is OK for my first go at anything like this and most importantly 2 mins ahead of my mate who was with me!

There were some short, sharp ones on the epic route that weren't much fun.I completed the standard route in 4:19 which I reckon is OK for my first go at anything like this and most importantly 2 mins ahead of my mate who was with me!

I almost flew up the two long climbs to Freshwater... got second (or third) wind, I think, although that could have been the energy gels

The climbs by Freshwater did not seem to be that bad, odd as by any real measure they were the trickiest on the route, not too far after the feed station I suppose.I almost flew up the two long climbs to Freshwater... got second (or third) wind, I think, although that could have been the energy gels

Just trying to get the results from pdf to Excel so I can benchmark against others doing the same event (I know it's not a race etc but I still want to know.....)

Well, that was fun!
Took a very gentle ride from the start to ferry as was with a couple of friends, very pleasent temprature at 7:15am (if only it had stayed that cool!) Despite part of the route seeming to be someones drive it was very easy.
I think we somewhat overwhelmed the ferry, must have been more than 300 of us on the first one!
Nice to meet you too Swerni, I doff my hat to you for riding that beast around the island- did you do the Epic in the end? (What was it BTW?) I was cursing my bike abit on the last couple of climbs despite it weighing less than 2/3rds of yours!
I was glad to reach the Ventnor stop, really needed more drink by then. Also very glad how flat and fast the southern part of the Island was, had it in my head it was all hills but despite being a busy road it wasn't too bad... well the surface was appalling but the road was ok :-)
Got a proper PistonHeads salute from a convoy of TVR's on this section, full on horn and declutched reving as they passed- Fantastic pickup and much needed.
Even better they dumped several litres of unburnt super-unleaded right in the faces of a pair or grumpy hikers at the roadside who held their noses and made bad smell wafting gestures just as I reached them, couldn't help but laugh which was probably rubbing salt in the wound :-)
The quiet ride back to the mainland in the airconditioned cabin of the ferry was Very pleasent but it took me half the way back to the finish to switch my legs back on, luckily woke up just before Brockenhurst so sprinted up the drag out of the town to the showground for a gold time :-)
(That said, not sure if they haven't cocked the times up slightly, as 6 of the 75miles where on the ferry!)
Brilliant event, very well organised despite the complexity of the times, stops and running two events at the same time.

12th best time out of 261 in the Saturday standard for me. I did a few 'bonus' miles en route to the first ferry as missed the turn.....
What an excellent event. I am not sure about the timing chips though - 6 of us started and finished together and no one got the same time (some were 2 hours later than others!). We also did a few bonus miles just so that we could reach the ton. According to my Garmin 5.55 at an average of 17mph - happy with that!Brew said:

My time compared well with my mates, but there were no chips it was all done by hand from what I could tell.Brew said:

Yup... but I saw a number of people skip the Yarmouth start/stop tent and just ride off around the island or into the ferry queue, despite the poor marshall yelling and waving for them to stop :-)Also, while they do an excellent job, I can't imagine the people typing your number in to start/stop the timer get every number perfect, maybe your mates timer was effectively running while he was in the queue and on the ferry?

The timing appeared to be started and stopped by the manual entry of race numbers, the kit to read the chips was in place but did not seem to be working and was not in place at the start / finish.
