Safety glasses for contact lenses

I'm wearing contact lenses when riding my MTB without any eye protection, as i have read some people have problems whith them due to drying out too quickly and falling out. Fortunately they never fallen out of my eyes but i can feel them a bit uncomfortable when riding fast or against the wind. So i decided to buy some transparent safety glasses, i've found a few on the internet but can't decide which one should i buy so maybe you can help me.

First one are ESS ICE ballistic glassey used by US Army, a bit expensive but it has good RX inserts(i may want to try them in the future instead of cotacts) and interchangeable lenses, some people write that they use them for cycling, do you think that ballistic glasses can be good for that or should i buy glasses made for cycling ? --> link http://www.eyearmour.co.uk/ess-ice-2-lens-tactical...

Second one are UVEX SGL 204, a bit cheaper and its written that they are made for cycling, they are with Decentred Lens Technology(i think ESS ICE doesn't have that) but it looks like it has smaller field of view comparing to ESS and i can't change lenses or put RX insert in them. --> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005EG3NZE/ref=asc_df_B00...


Do you think that glasses like that will protect me from wind ?
Any other ideas ?

I use some cheapy btwin yellow ones, they are great.

Also good for cycling in the rain and at night.

I was in Decathlon and tried these b'twin but even with transparent one everything looked a bit dimmed and it has no nose pads, there is just some hard plastic.

I've got several sets kicking about, issued by British Army too, for Iraq (in my case) and Afghanistan. Great to wear on the MTB, and pretty tough too. Only drama is they can fog up quite quickly when you stop moving, despite regular use of the 'No Fog' cloth.

The Uvex pair you link to (and I see you've fixed your links ) are limited to one lens tint, so for roughly twice the price you get twice the lens choice if you buy the ESS ICE. Also, the ballistic rating should mean added toughness.

Sorry, but I can't give any advice/feedback on using safety eyewear with corrective lenses, as my eyes work OK (so far).

Right now ESS ICE seems to be the best option for me. I'm from Poland and they are available in Polish shops. There are some cheaper glasses but i think in ESS quality will be better, i've read that some RX inserts are small and have narrow field of view, these for ESS have good opinions on the internet and are compatibile with all ESS glasses so i think it can be the best idea for future.

One more question, Uvex has decentrated lenses as its written so image is not distorted, Do you think that it's important because ESS ICE doesn't have that. Can it bother me when i for simple look down and see concave image ?

I ride with the ESS glasses and swap between yellow tint and white tint depending on if I'm riding during the day or evening/night. They are the glasses which are also issued to UK troops in Theatre (Afghan) and would be used when operating a rifle so the image is definitely not distorted. They do steam up for me a bit when I slow or stop, but then as soon as I get going, they clear. I'm more than happy with them.

I think it can stop wind well but a lot of cyclist use glasses without sponge so i think it should stop wind sufficiently.

When you are wearing cycling glasses can you really feel the difference ? Does wind blow less into your eyes ?
There is some space beween glasses and head so isn't wind flowing through these free space to much ?

Don't bother with a sponge/foam seal. They are great if you are expecting sandstorms or if it is VERY dusty where you ride, BUT, if you are riding hard and working up a sweat, you will find that they fog up far more readily than 'open' glasses, because the moisture evaporating from the skin around your eyes has no place to go.

As 'S6PNJ' says, and I alluded to earlier in the thread, these ESS lenses are used by combat troops on operations in harsh environments. Clarity is vital, and image distortion potentially deadly in a place like Afghanistan. Coupled with the fact that they are very strong, and you have an ideal pair of riding glasses for all kinds of light conditions. My issued set has 3 lenses and an elastic headstrap, along with a tidy case to store the spare lenses and a "No Fog" cloth to reduce misting up of the lenses...



They saw me through a 7.5 month tour of duty in Iraq, and about 5 years of service as riding glasses, 80/20 biased towards road riding. They've stood up well to all kinds of abuse, and although there are some minor scratches to the lenses, when I wear them I forget that they are there, so clarity is not an issue.

Thank you for answers. I decided to order ESS ICE, economic version with clear tint only, its cheaper and i can buy additional lenses in the future(i checked that price in polish shoops will be the same if i buy black and clear lens as a kit or apart, only if i buy all 3 lenses as a kit(black,clear,yellow) then it will be a bit cheaper than if i buy it apart but i don't need yellow that much).
