Rides Around Reading!

Anyone know any good road rides around Reading? Meeting a mate on Sunday at the station for a 40-60 miler and cant think where to ride, I'm coming from Swindon, him from London.
Even tho I used to work in Reading , live in Bracknell and commute most days on bike I'm stuck on where to ride!
Some decent climbs (if there are any?!!) would be great
At the mo I'm just thinking of heading to Windsor!

If it's hills you want then head up towards Henley, there's plenty if you look between the A4 and the M40. Even more if you head up beyond High Wycombe, it's not long before you hit the Chilterns and you'll get as much as your thighs can take. I don't have any specific recommendations for roadies (off-road is more my bag) but a few minutes with an OS map should give you some ideas.

Reading to donning to twyford to Henley up fairmile lower asidendon pishill Christmas common turville fingest frieth Marlow and back. Avoids main roads as much as possible except for the route from twyford to Henley and up fair mile which is fine. Lovely scenery and not much traffic generally.
As has already been suggested your best bet is to head for the Chilterns - some fantastic roads, some challenging climbs and exhilarating descents - plus you can dip into Henley or Marlow for a bite of lunch.
The route TKF suggested is quite good and mixes up some quiet roads with a few long drags, a few hills and a rather nice descent (take a look at Balham's Lane Descent on Strava) - only 1.4 miles but fantastic fun! Also, you skim through Henley so have a chance to stop for a coffee - if you are that way inclined!
I would suggest spending an hour looking at Strava, you can more or less draw a square between Reading, Watlington, High Wycombe and Maidenhead - all good riding country in there!

Never had a go at Britwell - mostly because I didn't know it was there! Been up and down Howe Road and Hill Road - quite a few times, in fact Howe Road was where I recorded my fastest speed (56 mph) but it is a bit scarey thanks to the poor road surface and couple of lumps of concrete in the middle of the road towards the bottom.
I had a go at Aston Hill last night, nowhere near as bad as I expected - just draggy - Hill Road is more of a challenge....

I am leading one of our club rides tomorrow, start outside the old town hall nr Reading station at 9am. Will be 50 miles or so in the Chilterns. You'd be welcome to tag along...

Well, I finally managed to get out that way and hit Britwell tonight, I decided on a 'benchmark' ride, so stayed on the big ring and remained seated for the entire hill. I have to admit it was a thigh burner but as a 'benchmark' I am reasonably happy, need to go back and do it when its cooler and possible to get a full lungful of air!!!Some good hills on this route.
