Should I sell my road bike?

I currently live on the outskirts of North London. One of the few bonuses to this manky pit of suburbia is that I'm close enough to cycle in to the office. But as of next month I'm going to be moving out to Hertfordshire.

The new house is three times as far out and separated from the office by a load of busy NSL roads that I don't fancy negotiating on a bike, so it looks like my riding is going to be purely recreational from now on. That being the case I'd probably get more fun out of mountain biking.

My road bike is actually a hybrid - a Kona Dew Deluxe. I think it's brilliant, but it's probably worth next to nothing second hand. The question is, do I sell it or try and find space for it in the new house? Hmm.

I certainly wouldn't sell it until you work out

a) if you have room for it, and
b) if you will still use it in your new pad.

Oh, I misread that bit. I thought the Kona was the MTB.

Already got one.

It's got half a foot of suspension travel and nice big knobbly tyres, hence the reason I think of my other bike - the skinny-tyred rigid frame Kona - as a road bike. I guess it's a hybrid technically.

My commute is all dull, congested 30/40 limit so I enjoy riding to work far more than I would driving, and I'll be genuinely sorry to lose that. But given a couple of hours to do as I please I can't imagine choosing road riding over some nice bumpy, twisty single track. I realise a lot of people see it differently, but for me it's a whole other level of intensity.

The countryside is not as liberally outfitted with awesome singletrack as it should be - besides, it's bad form to sell a bike: you need more bikes, not fewer.

If its worth naff all you might as well keep it. Circumstances may change in the future. I had a Kona Jake which I never used. Didnt want to part with it for relative peanuts. Rather than clutter up the garage its sealed in polythene bag in the attic! It will come down one day...

I rarely ever use road bike for leisure. Just commuting or fitness. Find it too boring otherwise

Would always rather be out on my MTB but road bike has its place... If you have the spac and its not costing you anything keep it.

That's not a bad idea. Won't have a huge amount of space in the garage, but I guess it could live somewhere else.

That or stick some mildly off road tyres on it for cycling on tow paths.

Me too, I had use of a decent road bike for a few months last year, used it twice. I just found it incredibly tedious.

MTB all day long for me.

To add....to each their own though.

and put drop bars on it and take up cyclocross

If you don't have space for at least 6 bikes in your new house you are buying the wrong house........
