Hello All

Now I haven't really had a bike since I was 15-16 (6 years ago), and then they were just cheap mountain bikes! I've been thinking of cycling into work seeing as I stay at the GFs house 50% of the time which is only 3 miles from work. I've had a quick read around the net and I've decided that I would want a Hybrid bike as although my journey to work would be all tarmac, I like the idea of being able to go slightly off road on the weekends! Plus I don't think I would have the confidence for a road bike and would prefer the flat bar of a hybrid.

I don't want to go and get an expensive bike straight away just in case I find I don't enjoy it, but equally I don't want to go and buy a piece of crap! I'm guessing from googling I should get something with 700 wheel size for speed, and I'm also not bothered about suspension as being young I can take the bumps quite well!

If you were in my shoes and had £250 to spend, what would you get? smile

Many Thanks

Something like this http://bit.ly/14uykVE or a Trek FX as Dizeee suggested.

You've gone mostly in the right direction: 700c wheels, flat bar is good if you're lacking in confidence etc as it makes looking over your shoulder easier. I'd add disc brakes if possible, and good clearance for mudguards. If the route is flat, seriously consider single speed - cutting out the need to maintain the gears is good news, plus they're lighter.

To be honest though, 3 miles is hardly enough to get warm once you get into the habit so absolutely any bike would do.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

I popped into a local bike shop on the way home and I've put a deposit down for a 2012 Saracen Urban Myth. They had it up for £300 from £350 and I've managed to convince him to chuck in some accessories for free smile

Should be ready to pick up tomorrow afternoon smile

Although it's too late now, has anyone got any comments on the above choice? One of my weaknesses is impulse buying...

i recommend this if you can get it:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trek-7-5-fx-fitness-road...

i had one a few years ago and it got me back into cycling big time. it is worth getting a reasonably decent bike, as they are more of a pleasure to ride and you will be more motivated to get back on it again. this bike is light, has good gear changes and a good range of gears, comfortable and generally easy to ride. its an aluminium frame with carbon forks.

good luck with whatever you buy, hope you get bitten by the bug!

£1K gets you nothing, except in the sales then be prepared for some man maths to get the £1.5 - £2K bike that was down from Xk

Just so long as it's not a De Rosa, they're the same as £750 Ribbles you know. wink
