Have just added a Boardman Road Comp to my 3 year old Boardman MTB for my first N+1.

I am absolutely loving the road bike and speed but have found the Boardman saddle to be a right pain in the arse.

I changed the Boardman MTB saddle (which appears identical) a few years ago for the same reason. After I got measured at the LBS I realised that I needed a wider saddle and tried a specialised jobbie but didnt seem to get along with it (admitedly I didnt give it much of a try as it just didnt feel great from the off). I then ended up with this on the MTB following a recommendation which was initially met with some derision:

Check out the size of that bad boy eek. This faithful Chesterfield has now covered the best part of 2000+ comfortable miles including a few 50 mile road runs.

So after a sore first 25 mile run on the new road bike I swapped the Sofa onto it for yesterdays ride paperbag

Whilst the Bike Hut saddle was much more comfortable on my sit bones it did numb my jacobs and leg a bit by the end of 30 miles. Does this sound lieke it may just need a tweak as it was a quick swap out ?

I am however tempted to give a wider road saddle another fair crack as the Bike Hut one really does look a dogs dinner on a very pretty bike. Any recommendations would be welcome, especially something with perhaps a middle ground of padding between a road saddle and my chesterfield (or do I really have to relent and get padded shorts).

Saddles aside, I am having a blast and loving the new found speed although I am finding that the potholed and gravelly country lanes deserve a new level of respect and awareness.

Happy days

After many expensive trials I wish I had stuck a Brookes on my bike a lot sooner. B17 standard works for me, you bike won't look the sleekest but your @rse will thank you!

I have an ISM saddle, which looks odd, but I've found it very comfortable.

Not cheap though:

Yes, why anyone would ride a road bike without padded shorts I do not know. They are 100% a must.

My shorts cost circa £100, you can really tell the difference between them and a cheap pair at the end of a long ride yes

If you are wearing a decent pair of bibs/shorts and you have pain after 20 minutes, you need a new saddle. If you have pain after 3 hours you need chamois creme. If you have pain after 20 minutes and you are wearing jeans, then changing a saddle won't do a lot for you.

Saddles are such a personal thing - there is no such thing as "the world's comfiest"
