The "My first bike" thread

Visiting the parents at the weekend and Mum mentioned that she still had my first ever bike in the shed. I loved that bike, so after wiping the spider webs and dirt off it I brought the old girl home (the bike, not my Mum!). A quick wash down and she is looking much better. There is still a long way to go as the aim is to get her back to new, but it nice to have her in my custody again.
So here she is in all her fixed speed touring glory.
I am pleased to note that the handlebar grips, seat and tyres all match as per The Rules. 
What is interesting is that I am currently building up a new One One Whippet at the moment and have realised that the colour schemes are very similar - a reddish orange colour with white bits. Who says your youth doesn't influence your future?

That looks pretty similar in style to my first bike, but mine was blue with white bits. Annoyingly, despite my parents' annoying hoarding habits now, the bike is long gone. I suspect tough times in the 80's meant it was sold to put food on the table (or, more likely, to fund my next bike - a red and black bmx, I think!)

I've been trying to find pics lately but nothing was right. I always thought it was a Raleigh Budgie but the pics say differently... So what is that?
Typically my mum can't find any pictures of it or me on it...

Glad to see that somebody else on here had one. It is a Raleigh RSW 11. RSW stands for Raleigh Small Wheel and the 11 is the size of the wheels.
Actually, looking at it it looks remarkably like the Budgie and the Tomahawk. I wonder whether these were based on the RSW 11 and simply updates?

Certainly seems like the Budgie & Tomahawk were variants/updates when you look at pics.
I'm so please you posted that though, makes me really happy to see it. Yours is exactly as mine was from what I remember... I loved those white tyres...
It was also responsible for my first big crash too
Took all the skin off my left cheek...Although the crash may have been down to my wanton and furious cycling
