Hi fellow pedal people.

My name's Tony and I'm having problems with my Garmin bits.

I have an Edge 500 with the premium soft strap HRM and the GSC-10 speed/cadendce sensor.

All has been working perfectly for 14 months.

Heart rate stopped working, so I replaced the battery. It still doesn't work, sometimes reading erratically and for most of the time not reading at all. Sometimes it pairs, other times it doesn't. I've read the fix about turning over the battery - that didn't work - or leaving the battery out for ages. Neither changed anything.

At the weekend I also noticed my cadence stopped working. So I replaced the battery in the GSC-10 and now the red light stays resolutely on and it will not pair with the 500 either.

So, to summarise, nothing bloody works.

What is going on - is there something I've accidentally done and not known about? Is there a setting somewhere? Can I just reset the whole thing to make it work again?

Something's a miss and I simply have no idea at all what it is frown

Any advice gratefully received!

can't you just try to re-sync them first? - have to do this often on my cadance sensor on my 705..

Have tried re-syncing a few times in a few different stages of reset and no joy. Occasionally picked up, occasionally not.

Could be two issues manifesting themselves as one!

A friend had a premium HR monitor which started to mess around after about 12 or 13 months. He changed the batteries, re-set it, followed the instructions on the Garmin web site but with no luck - eventually he contacted their help desk and they sent him a new one! Apparently the premium strap is not that great, the cheap one lasts forever!

I had issues with one of my cadence/speed sensors a while ago after changing the battery. Took the new battery out, cleaned the battery and inside of the sensor and then re-fitted it with a tiny bit of grease around the seal to make sure it was watertight and it has been fine since.

I have a cadence/speed sensor on 4 bikes and have to re-pair the Edge with the sensors more or less every time I ride, pita.....

Ah that's interesting; I have a support call in with Garmin so intrigued what they say on their reply. Fingers crossed they can help (be it with a suggestion or a new one).

Will try that tip with the cadence sensor - thanks. All looked ok in there when I changed the battery, but shall give it another try!

Ah ha! Eventually worked out the Cadence sensor issue. I went out for a ride from my LBS last night and it was the owner that suggested this.

I'd replaced the battery in the cadence sensor, which resets it so it needs to be re-paired. I couldn't get it to re-pair. Apparently it actually needs to be triggering during the pairing phase - i.e. spin the crank/wheel. So scan for the sensor and then pedal.

In addition to this, the magnet had moved slightly for the cadence, so I moved that a lot closer to the line (rather than the centre of the sensor).

So a couple of problems all of which, when sorted, means it works just as perfectly as before.

As for the HRM - I'm still waiting to hear back from Garmin.

Ooo and I just got an e-mail from Garmin.

They'll replace the strap as it's obviously broken. Just send proof of purchase.

Bugger. Was brand new, but eBay. Crap.

So, what do people recommend as an ANT+ HRM strap (not the garmin one - it's st)

Would they not accept a bank statement or credit card statement? Just tell them you lost the receipt

I've since found out that it's a 12 month warranty and 14 months since I bought it, so doubly-definitely-not-getting. Very frustrating, but I've ordered a new one already (not a Garmin!)
